I'm in nc, I make 10.25 but thats with a dollar graveyard shift diff. 3-11 pays 25 cents more. Plus I get great benefits, the ability to make my own schedule ect
7.75 an hour with shift diff? I agree quit now, asap.

In Jacksonville, FL, I started at St. Vincent's in April '08 at 9.76/hour. They give a 2.00/hr shift diff for weekends and I can't remember what the night rate was. I have been told that nursing homes start out a little higher. I left there to use my Medical assistant certification for quite a bit more money, but I actually miss it tremendously!

And that was starting with no experience in the medical field!

Did some checking and found out that the avg. starting pay for someone with no experience in Missouri is $10.15/hr just starting out if they are certified. Our local McDonald's starts out at $9.00/hr. I think it's time I ask for a raise!

In California the average is about 12-13 an hour. With shift differentials night/weekend pay can be 14-15 an hour. I know CNAs in acute care and in correctons that make 18 an hour, but it is not common. I think CNAs should get paid way more then they do. 7 or 8 dollars? That is too bad.

I have heard from some of my instructors that you should put negotiable. That way, when the interview comes, you can let them start the bid, and if you don't like the rate, you can go elsewhere.

I'm in Michigan, I've made up to 12/hr. While I heard that some hospitals start CNAs at 14/hr. It's very hard to get into those hospitals that pay that much
