CNA Bloopers!

by mimib

Being a CNA is a stressful job, so I think it helps to laugh at yourself.

On one of my first days as a CNA I got a man bathed and dressed who wore a brief. I had actually had a good day which was rare in my first few months of being a CNA. I did my charting feeling very proud of myself. Then another CNA came up to me and said- Mr. X has peed all over the floor, you need to go get him dressed again. NO WAY I thought, I just got him up 10 minutes ago, he couldn't have peed that much! I go in the room, remove the brief and am astonished- It was completly dry! The other CNA loooked at me and laughed. "you didn't make sure the penis was in the brief did you? UH...NO. At the time I was embarrasses but it's so funny to me now.

Everyone share your funny blooper stories!

Oh I've done that one too! Only it was in bed and I couldn't figure out why this one guy ALWAYS had a dry brief but the bedpad was soaked only on the right, at every single change.

One of the other aides had to tell me to make sure he 'hangs straight' in the brief. I was mighty embarrassed but after that, had dry beds with that resident.

I almost tripped over an invisible (ie nonexistent) object while walking into a patient's room today. Her family was in there and they all saw me nearly bust my head open.

I've done that a million times. One of the nurses said we are tripping over ghosts!

A couple weeks ago I was passing out ice water and spilled it on a patient! Luckily I reacted fast enough and got mostly myself and the floor I felt so bad. I just told her she looked to comfortable

I work in hospice, at a hospice inpatient unit. One time another CNA (no longer with the company) came in while I was in the room of a patient who had recently passed. Apparently he hadn't heard because I asked him "How long do you think it will take for the funeral home to get here?" (or something to that affectand he says "Shhh! She'll hear you, wait until she's dead to talk funeral homes!" I'm like, "Um, she died half an hour ago! Look at her". It was only then he actually looked at the pt and realized she was clearly no longer with us!
