Re: Clinicals start today!
Hey, Kim! I'm back! Time went by fast while I was there. I mainly watched, but I did get to assist my CNA with feeding, showers, and I did some BPs (a major area I need to work on).
I'm still trying to get used to the way everything is run there. (I've spent more time in hospitals than I have in nursing homes; too bad we don't get to do a rotation in the hospital.) I tried to stick to the way I was taught as much as possible, just like you said. I think I did most things correctly, but there were few times I honestly couldn't remember in what order the steps were and I had to rely on my CNA for guidance. (I'm definitely hitting my procedure manual tonight!)
I will admit, I was shocked at how many of the CNAs told me they never use gloves for toileting, diaper changes, showers/baths, etc. I understand they're crunched for time, but
come on.

And don't even get me started on transfer belt use and hand washing (or, more accurately the lack of).
So, besides all that, I had a very good day. It is hard, hard work, but I think it's very fulfilling. Just to get a thank you (I got four very heartfelt thank you's today, not that I'm keeping track.

) makes it worthwhile.
I think I'll go to sleep very tired, but very happy.
