Clinical Help!

I am going to be doing my CNA clinicals between the hours of 6-10 PM in a LTC facility. Can anyone give me an idea of what the schedule will be like. I heard that I most likely will be barely doing anything since most of the work is done such as changing beds and bathing. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks!!!

Schedules vary from facility to facility. Most likely picking up supper trays and charting them. Turning pts and providing PM care like backrubs, teeth and denture brushing, etc. Depending on the type of residents it can be a busy time because the nurse will be doing a med pass during that time and will be unable to answer call lights and help out. A nurse still might do those things but she will be concentrating on her med pass.

Oh, and don't forget the sundowners! What are nice, cooperative residents can turn mean and climb out of bed in the evening so they can keep you hopping.

This is actually a very busy time in LTC. Depending on what time dinner is you'll be feeding patients and then very nearly directly afterwards you'll start putting people to bed. Most aides have 8-10 residents and if you do cares properly it takes 10-15 minutes to do full PM cares, so you'll spend a lot of time putting people in PJs.
