CCAC (pgh) CNA classes

Hi,
I'm having a difficult time finding a CNA position because I"m "too educated" (I have a BS). I believe that's a bunch of hogwash, but I'm still sending out my resume along with a cover letter. My deadline for trying to find a CNA position will be the end of this year. If I don't have anything then, I've been considering taking a CNA training course at CCAC in January. Has anyone done that before? What are your success of finding a positiong after completion? If you have a college degree but was able to get a CNA positon, what was your experience and do you have any advice? Thanks!

So have you already taken a CNA course or are you trying to learn on the job? Why are you looking at becoming a CNA if you have a BS degree? Change of pace or looking forward to nursing school?

I don't have much experience in the medical field (very little), so I wanted to become a CNA. I want on the job training, but so far it's been difficult. So if I can't get anyone to hire me and provide on-the-job training, then taking CNA classes at CCAC would be a last resort.

It's frustrating to be told "You're over-educated"....

I know... I'm a former therapist with a Ph.D. in psychology.... I've been moving from the "mind to the body" for the past few years and will get in to nursing school soon. Now I'm working as a CNA (and teaching a little).
:sasq:(I will get into nursing school... I WILL)

Even with my education, I have been offered 5 jobs... and been turned down by 5.... I've had at least a dozen applications & resumes that weren't responded to.

For me, I think my job offers came because I didn't focus on my past, but rather, my future. I made it clear I understood what a CNA does and that I had the "git-er-done" attitude....

Hope this helps... Good luck with your job search...

Of course YMMV.... Blessings.

yea, get the cna training, once you have the certification there will be no question of whether to hire you or not based upon your prior education. All they should see is that you are qualified for the job in which you are applying. Also try not putting your degree on the application

Yes, I was going to ask if you were all ready certified? You shouldn't have a problem finding a job with your certification.

I'm not certified in anything! The positions I've applied for stated that free training would be provided if you have no experience.

You can get free training, but I don't know of any place that will train you and than not expect you to get certified. A lot of facilities give you a certain amount o time 3-6 months or something like hat to take the certification test otherwise they have to let you go.
