:groupwelcome: I'm so happy you all are sharing your experiences. I noticed some of you are doing HH and private duty. How do you like that as opposed to working industry?

Hello everyone,
I am a new CNA as well. I just finished Aug 1, plan on applying for jobs on Monday. I am also working towards an LPN getting through all of the pre-reqs now.

I just completed my CNA training. Will be giving the certification exam in two weeks. I have been in the technical field (Telecommunications) for the past 18 years..so this is going to be my second career... Messages at allnurses.com has helped me a lot in taking this decision.

Nurse Re: Calling All CNA's!
YAY!!

I've been a CNA for 8 years now and I work as a tele tech. It was getting to be too much on my back and hips to work on the floor =(.

Welcome to the best time of your life to the new CNA's. One word of advice: throw out the book and learn your own way of dealing with things. It will really help you and will help you in a time crunch.

*waves* I'm Sarah, an NA in LTC (mostly elderly). I haven't taken my boards yet, but will on 19 August. I think I had the idea for the CNA forum

Thumbs up Re: Calling All CNA's!
I am a LPN..and sometimes I feel that it's us who are the assistants and the "CNA' is actually the nurse. Why? Because CNA's are the ones at the forefront..doing..seeing..experiencing precious moments of caring firsthand and without them nurses jobs would be alot harder.I LOVE CNA's..when you have a good one who really cares..they are worth triple their weight in gold!

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over "!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

Happy Posting!
I started out as a CNA in 1993 working from home health to step down ICU. I later became an LPN and am currently finishing up my 4th semester in an RN program. I truly believe that being a CNA first has definately helped me in my career. I know the responsibilities and what is expected of each dicipline. Wheather your title is RN, LPN or CNA each position has something unique to bring to the table. I am glad I have my experience as a nursing assistant and encourage anyone who's thinking of nursing as a profession to consider becoming a CNA first. CNA's make exceptional nurses and are the backbone of nursing. Thank you
