Becoming a CNA but not moving on to LPN or RN

Anyone a CNA but not wanting to become a LPN or RN? I hope that I can eventually move on to Rehabilitative Asst or somehow get experience in a hospital. There are so many opportunities out there in healthcare. I feel CNA is a great start! Thanks everyone!

I don't plan on becoming a nurse, but I am going to school for something similar.

I worked with older CNAs who never went on to become nurses. One lady started an LVN program, but quit because she could not deal with the academics. As long as you can do the physical labor and do not mind the low pay, nothing wrong with remaining a CNA.

I know a lot of aides who plan to remain aides. And that's great, because we need you!

I work at a LTC center, and the physical labor isn't too strenuous... it's actually a pretty laid back facility. There are about 20 residents, and 2-3 CNAs on at a time. The pay isn't too bad; starting pay with less than 1 year experience is $10.50 an hour, plus differentials ($1.50 for 3-11pm), plus benefits if you are full-time (32 hours a week+). Each additional year, you get a raise.

$12.00 an hour isn't much when you compare it to a nursing salary, but keep in mind, CNA training lasts about 3 months. I think it is worth it!

Again, thank you. I have never heard of a "laid-back" LTC! Wow....there is hope! I know the pay is low....I have to start somewhere! I was a receptionist at a brokerage firm for 15 years...not going to make what I made before....but I sure will have a better career. Looking at maybe moving in restorative care while working at a Rehab? As a Resorative Asst?
