Re: 1 assist transfers w sb
This is a sticky issue. As another respondent stated, the goal is to keep yourself and residents safe.
But yes, if others are saying they can transfer people, safely, one-on-one, then you may need to evaluate your transfer abilities or technique or you run into the issue, which you've already hit, of 'others' being able to do something, but you can't.
You stated you were new. I had the same issues being new. I was actually stronger than some of the people doing one-on-one transfers, but didn't have the techniques down. A lot of it is speed - you don't actually hold someone's weight more than a second if you're transferring correctly (meaning you have proper positioning of yourself and resident).
Ask ---- most other CNA's are willing to help you if you admit you're having difficulty doing something they can do.
Make sure the issue isn't technique, rather than strength.
