hi everyone!

i have been a cna for all of about 6 weeks now. off of orientation for 3 weeks. i work the 11pm-7am shift and i love it. however, i want to experience some more patient care and i need more money bad so i am ready to do some overtime. i will be working the 3-11 shift for the first time next friday. it wont be my floor so they may or may not realize that i am new. i noticed that people tend to be impatient with new people and i don't want to frustrate anyone. so could you please give me some tips on what the schedule typically is on the 3pm-11pm shift?

i think they have dinner around 5:30pm and then the basically go to bed. we are supposed to get a group of nine, usually we end up with 12 because people call in a lot on this shift. i think they are supposed to be in bed by 8pm.

what goes on between 3:00pm and 5:30pm? are they doing recreational activities? napping? am i correct about them eating dinner at 5:30pm and then in bed by 8pm? is that how it usually works?

any tips and advice on how i can be supper efficient and not appear as new as i am would be greatly appreciates. :heartbeat :nuke:

oh and i love my job! :redbeathe :D

The times are a bit different for us, dinner's at 4:30.

Between 3 and 4:30 there's usually some activity going on. So we toilet people and get people up that take afternoon naps. Then dinner. In our facility they show a movie after dinner and we start putting people to bed. We don't have a time they have to be in and let them stay up as late as they want for the most part. Most want to go around 7-8. If they're able to you can go around when you get in and ask them what their preference is. Also we usually have 1 or 2 evening showers. We do our last rounds at 10. HTH

I work 2:30pm - 11pm

dinner is at 5pm

We put them to bed right after were done feeding unless they want to stay up. This is around 6pm - 7pm

Last round is around 9:45pm depends on how many of us on the floor.

First off ask of any residents stay in bed for dinner. That will save you time from getting them up and then putting them back to bed..

Then just start getting people up. Once you have your people up, check if you have any showers and thats about it.

Then put them to bed and wait till your last round..give yourself an hour to 2 hours to make your last rounds before you get ready to go home.

I work in assisted living, so it might be a little different. But from 3-5 in our facility, most are either taking a nap or doing some sort of activity. Then we round everyone up for dinner. SOME like to go to bed before 8, but other's don't want to get ready for bed until 10. I've only worked 3-11 once though, because I usually work 7-3.
