Testing during CNA/LNA interview?

When you were interviewed for a CNA/LNA job position, did the facility test your skills during the interview process? Do all places do this? Is it legal? I can't help but be a little upset over the thought of this, because I just recently passed the nerve-racking clinical part of the state exam involving skills and I hate the thought of having to go through it all over again for every job interview that I have. Please help!

I've never heard of it happening, but I'm guessing that it's probably not illegal. I have been asked during one interview, to describe in detail & exact steps what I would do in certain clinical situations.

And every company is different, so no, I doubt you'll go through this for every single interview.

The reason why I ask is because on the back of one of the job applications that I have, is an area for the "Test Administrator" to fill out the list of "tests administered" and her "raw score, rating, comments and interpretation" of them.

Hmm...maybe the test might be for a demonstration of taking BP & vitals? Is it a job app. for a nursing home? I have several friends that are CNA's working in LTC & the only test I've heard them speak of having done has been drug testing while in pre-hire status.

Hospitals (in my area) do drug testing & the only pre-employment tests administered have been (in my experiences) computer skills, psychological test and medical terminology skill test.

Is there anyone you know of that works there, or has worked for that company and could maybe give you a heads-up as to what they went through?

Yes, the application is for a LTC facility. I sent out a bunch of resumes and this place was the only one to send me back something to fill out first. Another thing that's weird, is that this place is also making me fill out paperwork for work reference requests too. You have to authorize the facility to send people this questionaire to fill out about you. I've never seen anything like it before, usually you just give phone numbers for them to call and that's it. I really hope this is not the norm for getting a nursing assistant job. I have hope that it isn't though, because today I got two phone calls and have a job interview at a different LTC and at a hospital next week!

Which job are you hoping the most for; LTC or hospital?

Thank you! I honestly don't know. That is one of the questions that I have been trying to find the answer to on here. I think I would like them both for different reasons. Have you had the opportunity to work in both LTC and hospital? What is your opinion? Which one would you pick?

I've never worked LTC. I've worked in one hospital in psych unit and in another hospital I worked med/surg & ICU. I loved both!! Med/surg is always rockin' and you never lose any skills, you gain extra ones.

The RN's at both places were a diversified group of travelers & permanent workers and were absolutely fantastic to work with.

The pay is better in hospitals. The only down side to it that I can of was being understaffed some of the time and the 12 hr shifts would sometimes turn into 14-16 hrs. :(

I went into public health because it is a govt. job with even more benefits than hospitals (which were excellent), but now I'm a state CNA2 with 8 hr. days, wknds. off & all federal holidays off!

Like right now, I'm enjoying this looong Labor Day wknd. :w00t:

I love helping people and learning new things!

A few friends that are CNA's in LTC love their jobs too.
