Sexual advances from a resident

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I have been caring for this man for about a week now. He has been very nice to me and would occasionally flirt, but I didn't think anything of it. The other day I was finishing up doing perineal care on him and he asked me for a hug. I told him no, and he then said that the door was closed and nobody would know. That remark made me feel uncomfortable. As I was leaving his room, he mentioned something about doing me a favor. This man is in his right mind which made me uncomfortable. Should I let my DON know about this? Should I suggest letting another CNA care for this man?

This is the kind of thing you ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS need to report. However "harmless" his comments might seem, they might not always be so, and his behaviors need to be monitored.

Reporting things like this will also ensure that you protect yourself - I used to work with a girl who had a resident who had an infatuation with her. One day, he made a sexual advance on her, of course she denied him, and she went about her business and assumed it was no big deal. However, he ended up telling another staff member that she had slept with him. It turned into a big investigation and because the resident was in his right mind, the allegation had to be reported to the state, even though the allegation was ruled unfounded.

Of course, situations like that are rare, but you want to protect yourself just in case!

I have had a few advances from residents-my wedding band got me out of both of them :-)

However, I reported both situations, and they were documented. I would advise that you report them.

Report it.

My best friend was grabbed and had a tongue forced into her mouth by a AOx3 resident.

Needless to say, she was horrified and humiliated but did report it.

The resident was forced to find another facility.

Not only were there numerous reports about this man, but also, his behavior had obviously escalated to the point of being dangerous.

There is no excuse for it so please report it and spare yourself and others any further pain.

I worked at a facility where there was a resident (also AAOx3) who would make advances like this. The DON was made aware. Whenever a CNA had to do peri care for him, there would have to be another CNA present. Apparently, he did not make sexual advances when there was someone else present. Sorry this has happened to you, but please don't be afraid to report it. Good luck :)

Gross! :barf01:

I would have given him a nice swift kick where it matters.

Record and report for sure!
