  1. i posted this on another board but thought i'd put the update here, too being that i had negative things to say about allen school previously.

tonight was the last night of my cna course! although, as much as i may have complained, i am a little sad . i am going to miss my teacher, and my classmates. but, we are probably going to bump into each other for another month. we start clinical's april 6th - april 9th, and from then on, its time to pre-test, then off to state boards.

i am convinced that it was not entirely the school that irritated me-- but the students. i am also proud to say that with the combined help of my class, we were able to "fight" for reform in this school. the entire staff will have a meeting on saturday and come up with a strategy to fix the things that are wrong. in addition, the clinical instructor is going to be taped, so that students (possibly) and teachers can have an official clinical standard for state board prep. we were also extended an additional week to practice our skills with a qualified instructor (free of charge).

i am pretty excited to start my clinical rotation and i will let you all know how it goes. clinicals don't start for another 3 weeks. so technically, i have 3 weeks to go to remedial (practice) classes, watch videos, and study for the board exam!!!

in between that time, i may attempt to get my cpr certification as well because i noticed that alot of facilities require this now for employment ($60 certification fee).

    so:

    1. three weeks till clinicals start.

    2. clinicals for a week. april 6 - 9th.

    3. pre-test the following week.

    4. board exam asap.

technically, i won't be certified and employed until may -june.. :chuckle
  2. Oh wow ......Manhattan Institute did raise their prices, when I went almost 6 mos ago it was 999. I guess its a sign of the times....smh.
  3. I am looking for a short cna program in new york.
  4. Its definitely the sign of the times. I just finished my clinicals at the Manhattan Institute. Our instructor was fantastic. Moreso considering she had over 30 students to teach. She was thankful to us that we were respectful of one another and cooperated. Most of us only got to do one skill meaning we learned and did all skills only once. Toward the end it got better, but you can tell she was wiped out. I paid the $999 and not surprised they raised it. Good Luck to everyone!!!!!

Oh man she's a gem isnt she? My class was also huge, a lot of the students were very serious and respectful. In fact most of us still keep in contact. She was sooo helpful as we were getting ready for the state boards, I would come back and practice and she would be there and giving little tips. heartbeat:heartbeat

    Thank you SO much!!!

We start clinical rotations next Monday @ the VA Hospital, so wish me luck. I'm just going to take this one step @ a time. Gonna get my hair done, and buy some new scrubs for the internship (only had one for the class, I'm frugal & cheap!), plus we gotta get them "ugly" nurse shoes. They say no sneakers (I had a pair of white Dr. Schol's. SP?) that are perfectly comfy !

Sidebar: Has anyone realized that a lot of hiring (NH & Hosp.) places require a CPR certificate? Anyone know of any good CPR classes in Queens, Manhattan, or BK?
  10. i made a post through another thread & then was told about this one ;; thanx by the way SerendipityWoMyn; im just beginning to learn the site.

    heres my ques ::

im currently pursuing my interest in nursing ; but really do not know where to begin, with CNA courses how does it work? i want to be an RN which will later lead me to Nurse in Anesthetics. but with CNA classes, can anyone help me with what school or program to attend and when im done with a CNA course what happens next? and i would like a school that will give me job placement when the course is done. help! im so lost in figuring this all out.

ive been looking into the manhattan institute but like i said i want somewhere with job placement.

    thanks
