L&D CNAs?

I want so badly to be a L&D CNA! Are there any around and if so, what can you all tell me about it?

I've always been interested in pregnancy, birth and mother/baby health. Like, really interested, and I'd always thought it was a weird interest until I channeled it into becoming a nurse. I really would love to be a L&D nurse (I'm in nursing school now), but I don't want to have to wait around to get into L&D after I become an RN or LPN. I figured it might be easier if I develop a good reputation as a CNA and work my way up. Plus, I hear absolutely wonderful things about working at the hospital I want to be at, and it's literally right up the street, about thirty seconds away.

I know in the town I live in we have a pretty small hospital. When I was in the hospital having my son I asked the L&D nurses if they had any aides. They said they don't really have any, but that was only because of staffing issues. I only saw one aide when I was there and actually she was a tech. (She could draw blood and a couple of other skills they don't teach in the nurse aide classes) It seemed though to management that since the L&D department was so small compared to the med/surg floors they didn't warrant having aides on staff.
