I need some advice...

I got my CNA certification last April ('08). I worked at a LTC facility for 2 and a half months during the summer. I work at a school during the school year. Anyway, my problem is that after this school year is over, which will be my last year working at the school, I am wanting to try and get a CNA job in a hospital. I had an issue when I worked at the LTC facility and quit without giving any kind of notice. I don't normally quit like that. Anyway, since I only have 2 and a half months of experience should I even put the LTC on my resume when I apply for another CNA job? I am afraid if I do put it, then when the place I am trying to get a job calls my old job that they may tell them about me quitting without notice. Or should I just not put it since it was only 2 and a half months experience? Sorry for the long explanation! Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!! :)

Its nevr a good idea to leave a job off your application. I worked at a job for 1 day & quit (long story) & had been leaving it off my applications. But I've been reading a lot of articles about resumes & interviews & all of them suggest that you should always list all of your jobs. Just explain why you left & it should be okay. good luck :)

Its tricky because technically when you quit with no notice, and I hope I'm wrong, you committed abandonment which for most health pros is a major major no no. If you put that job down and the ltc decides to use that term then its highly unlikely any hosp will hire you. However, in this please don't sue me age they could easily say you quit without notice. But its a big risk to take, if I were you get a job in home health build any kind of ref and then go apply after even one client or someone at the company is willing to go to bat for you.

I would strongly suggest putting down the 2 month job on your resume, because they will find out through your background check, anyhow. Be honest, and explain what happened.

Ok. I'll make sure I put it down on my resume! I wasn't sure if previous jobs showed up in a background check or not. I just don't want them to call the place where I worked for 2 months and then they say that I just quit without notice and then the place where I am applying won't even consider me. That's why I'm afraid of putting it on my resume. Of course I want my new place of work to know that I have had some experience though! I just didn't know what I should do. I don't want my previous place of employment to keep me from getting a new CNA job!

I wouldn't worry too much. Being honest will impress them. If you are energetic, professional, well groomed, and polite they will love you and your previous walk out probably won't make a big difference.

Make this a learning experience though. There have been SEVERAL times in my current LTC job where I have come steps from walking out the door, but I didn't. Just remember, this one shift is very insignificant in the course of your life. It will only make you stronger!
