    When you lower the head of the bed to put the bed pan on the patient do you need to raise the side rails? I thought I remembered my teacher saying that you need to raise the side rails every time you move the bed, but I might have misheard her, and it seems unnecessary to raise them for this reason.

    It's not mentioned as a step in my book but it seems like the patient will need something to hold onto in order to lean over. I do just bc it makes sense to me.

    You would put the rails up on the side opposite you. You can't very well work over bedrails.
