I finished my CNA training at the Red Cross back in February, and loved every minute of it!!!! Compared to the other CNA training classes out there, its very thorough and covers a wide variety of topics. Plus, you get CPR/First Aid certified, Alzheimer's training, Domestic Violence and HIV training. My class lasted 5 weeks and we had 3 days of clinicals (I live in Florida). I would recommend it to everyone... The nurses that taught our class told us that the local hospitals love graduates from RC because they know we received great trianing. Good luck to you
Thank you for starting this thread...I was just about to ask the same exact thing until I saw this!
I just received my letter from the Red Cross saying I was accepted to the program and the classes start July 9th til the end of August. I'm sooooo excited and nervous at the same time.. I've heard that the Red Cross has a great program, though. I met my instructor and she seems really nice.
I took my training at RC in Tennessee and my teacher was strict, but I learned a ton! Learn how to wash your hands!! You will do it a million times!! We had 4 clinical days 2 in a LTC/ rehab and 2 in a step down floor of a hospital kinda like between a nursing home and a regular hospital floor, it saves the patient insurance charges because it lowers the cost of part of their stay.I was certified in 3/03 and I worked in a hospital for 4 years in any area I could. I start nursing school this Fall and I have a good idea where I want to work after.
I also went through the Red Cross program and highly recommend it. Our instructor told us that local hospitals would waive experience requirements for new Red Cross grads because they know it's such a quality program.
We had a full week of clinicals...one day in a hospital, and four in LTC.
I took my CNA class through the Red Cross also. I feel that prepared me well to work as a CNA. I don't know much about other CNA programs, so I can't really compare it to any other programs. I passed the state exam on my first try with no problem.
This posting is great. Today I signed up for the CNA program at the Red Cross it goes from July 3 to the 31st. I have been attending a state college for a while and thought I would get some experience in the Nursing field. I'm also going to try to get into the LVN program in Dec. The LVN program will be at the Adult school. It really affordable for me. I will still continue going to the state college to get my classes out of the way for the RN. Carla
I think the Red Cross program has a really good pass rate for state tests. When I went through it, our instructor said that in the year she had worked for the program, only two students had actually gone through and not been successful.
