esl cna need help

hi everyone

im esl student who is going to shool to be a nurse but im still taking my esl class ( english as second language ) so i decided to statst nursing programme assistance to be a CNA so i can have some experience before i get to be a nurse

the problem is that im worried:bluecry1::( if im doing the wright thing by going for cna and also if it is going to be hard for me since english is not my native language am i going to have diffuclty communacate with the resident when i start working ?

i need some advice please

Well my english is not perfect either , currently I am taking ESL class at the local college. Don't worry just try to be positive. At what level of ESL are you ? BTW I am also thinking about CNA CLASS

I am a CNA. English is my second language. I have no problem communicate with residents. I think it's a good idea if you work as a CNA before taking a nursing class because you will learn a little bit of medical terminology and prepare yourself to the medical field. I am pretty sure that it's a lot of esl CNAs or nurses out there. We just need to believe in ourself!! ;)

Anyway, English is my first language but at the long term care facility I work at, there are many CNA's who have English as a second language. Their first languages are French, Spanish, Swahili and Russian =)

It is good in long term care because the residents talk about simple things. The weather, their friends or family, or they tell you stories. But most of my residents are non-verbal so....

I love it! I work at the hospice. Most of my co-worker speak English as a second language including some RNs and LPNs. I have a chance to use a medical equipment (train by RN) or due with an emergency situation. First time, I was panic and I asked myself that "Do I want to become a nurse?". But then I realized that I want to help people and provide comfort care for my residents at the end of thier life. It won't be easy ,but it's not that hard either!! :)
