CNA Position Hospital Interview

Hello,

I was looking for some advice for my interview that I have coming up on Monday for a CNA position at a hospital in the oncology unit. I completed an accredited Nursing Assistant I program last April and the same week I passed my state certification test, I found out I was pregnant. I was very sick during my pregnancy and have not sought any work until now. Should I be honest and tell them during the interview why I haven't worked until now or should I say something else? I know sometimes people get funny if you have a newborn at home. Also has anyone gotten a job at a hospital with no experience? Any interview tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you do mention the baby at home just make sure you tell them you have reliable daycare and backup daycare for emergencies.

I wouldn't mention it unless it is going to interfere with your schedule. Babies are a natural part if life. You want them to judge you on you and your abilities.

I recently got my CNA license, and I'm currently seeking a job in the Miami Gardens area. Hospitals I have applied to are not hiring without experience or without an EKG certificate or phlebotomy. I also tried the Nursing Homes (Sigh) is anyone on here know of anywhere in Miami that is hiring? Please let me know thanks. (Future RN:)

I got a job in a hospital without experience. A lot of new grads have trouble finding work right away, so they may not even think anything of it. If they ask why you haven't worked, I would just say "I had some personal issues to take care of and I didn't want to commit to work until they were taken care of." That will make it look like you know that your job is a priority and you know that your personal life can't interfere with it. I was asked questions like how many patients did I take care of in clinicals, a lot of what if questions like "what if your patient refuses a bath" and "what if your patient has a b/p of 200/90"... a lot of the questions were a lot like the state test now that I think about it. They just wanted a handle on how I would react in certain situations. I also had a lot of customer service related questions like how to handle angry family members, etc. Good luck to you!!

Thank u everyone for the advice! I officially got the job and I have orientation in two weeks! I am so excited and thank u to everyone again. I definitely used all the advice I was given!
