CNA hours during Nursing Pre-reqs

Has anyone here changed their hours from full-time to part-time as a CNA?

If so, or not, how flexible was your employer with your hours?

I'm planning to work full-time until June (7 months) and then transition into part-time for summer school, then again transition into full-time during Fall.

Anyone here as a CNA have a flexible employee who is willing to work with a situation like this, full-time to part time to full-time?

I think my question was a little long. I was wondering if anyone here can share info on their employee's flexibility with school scheduling as a CNA.

Hi! I'm not in that situation, but a hospital I recently interviewed with said that they had a few CNA openings because some of their current CNA's had moved to part-time to go to school. My CNA class instructor has worked at another local hospital for 15+ years and said they would work with us if we needed to change our schedules.

Most people don't stay CNA's, they move on to nursing or some other program, so I think most employers have accepted this and are willing to work around it.

Where I work they are very flexible with the cna's schedules that are going to school. People who are going to school full time usually only work per diem & during the week. Others only work 24hrs or 32 hrs & of course have class on their day off or school before or after their shift. I haven't heard of people changing their hrs but people always pickup or stay late. Just talk with your employer they should be understanding bc its for school esp if your looking to go to nursing school.

It's been a while, but when I was in school I worked 7p-7a fri,sat and sun and went to school mon-thurs. Not ideal, but I really didn't have a choice.

My facility is pretty good with that too. I only work 3 shifts during the week (that's weekends only). My supervisor and coworkers are pretty understanding too and are willing to work for me if I need a day off. Part of it is that most of them encourage me to stay in school and say not to worry about work. My bosses (I don't even know how many of them I have lol) give me days off if I need time for studying. All I have to do is write a request form before the master schedule is out.

But I'm hoping to cut down on work and only work one shift per week. I'm hoping there won't be any problems. Pre-Med track is killing me lol. 5 classes of which 4 are science related plus labs? I'm already freaking out for the Spring semester.

May I ask which 4 science related lecture and lab you are taking? I ask because I would like a taste of nursing! XD

I am currently working for a home health care company and they are very flexible. They require 4 hour shifts so I just give them my schedule and they call me when they have pts that can fit into it. When I start nursing school in the spring I will probably stick to doing hospice for three 12 hour shifts friday, saturday, sunday
