CNA hourly pay rate?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello.

I'm trying to apply for this nursing home near my house.

but i'm not sure what to put for desired rate of pay.

so..

what is the average pay rate for starting cnas?

i looked up and they are giving me different rate.

thanks

I just got hired at a hospital without experience and without a CNA license (Currently on my 1.5 years of nursing student) for $13.50 and $14.50 for weekends in the subs of Chicago.

How did you get hired? Did you fill out app on line? or go to the hospital in person? I almost have my cna and desperately want to work in a hospital. I am wondering did you have any prior experience or a great cover letter? I have no experience this is a career change for me so my application seems like it might get tossed to the side, would love to know how you got noticied. Thank you in advance

Good info.

I'm going to start looking for a job after I pass my test exam. I already applied to a few places and they told me they don't hire new grads. I guess CNA's are also having problems getting a job as a new grad. :down:

Specializes in pediatric.

I actually didnt even have a cover letter! I was so nieve. I applied for the position online... I honestly didnt think I was going to get a call back for an interview, but I did. I did my peds rotation at Childrens Hospital, and I mentioned that in my resume, so I think that helped. And btw- they don't hire new grad nurses as CNA's at Childrens, so its tough for those new grad RN's out there that dont have either a CNA job or an RN job. Good luck!!!

Hi, I am a newly certified CNA.

I just got hired a week after I graduated :)

I heard a lot of rumors about pay during my training... from extremely low to extremely high. I can only work weekends on 3rd right now because of kids and my husband's schedule, and I was offered $13.50 to start with benefits (sick days, holidays, vacation after 6 months, and health/dental offered). I am pretty happy considering I'm only part time. Good Luck!

What state do you work in?

I filled it out online. I heard that my hospital likes my school so they will accept students, but I dont know if that is true since we are a fairly new school too but it is local to one another. I did have a cover letter but in the end, I have no idea how it happen.

The starting rate for a "new" CNA at the hospital here is $14.00.

Did you have good references, experience before in a hospital, and what is your pay? How do you like working in a hospital? Do they treat you with respect as a CNA? Thanks for your help! What city are you in?:)

In California the average is about 12-13 an hour. With shift differentials night/weekend pay can be 14-15 an hour. I know CNAs in acute care and in correctons that make 18 an hour, but it is not common. I think CNAs should get paid way more then they do. 7 or 8 dollars? That is too bad.

Pretty much the same in Colorado DH and Health One will start base pay at 11-13 then give a 2-3 dollar diff pay for nights and weekends. University Hospital pays 19/hr (if you have 1 year ex in acute care) some Agencies will give you 16-17/hr with just 6 months in Acute care.

I FINALLY GOT A JOB!! clip_image001.gif

starting pay for mine was 9.50$. the lady said that she gave me .50$ extra.. O_O;

and 10$ with .50$ shift differential [chose job for 11-7]..

and 11$ for weekend with 1.50$ differential.

is that alot.. or should i have expected more? O_O;

cuz when the lady said 10 for starting pay.. i was so happy until she looked at some paper and goes.. "oh it says 9.50" lol O_o;

I’d personally shop around for something better once you get aleast 6 months experience under your belt

From my experience with hospitals if you let them know you want to be a nurse are you nearly finished with your pre reqs (or done like I am) they are more willing to work with you and find high paying positions for you. Why? Well they want a good prospect in the future (for RN). If you’re just a C.N.A or PCT looking to go nowhere they will just keep looking for that personal that has some goals set for themselves. Even if that person is a new grad!

You really have to have a resume that speaks for you then once you get the interview sell yourself! Big Hospitals are harder to get into but they are worth it and if you know anything about psychology the interview process should be a breeze.

I'm in Wisconsin and work in a hospital. I make 14.00 hourly, 3.30 for working NOCS, and 3.00 for working weekend program. So 20.30 an hour since I only work weekends.
