Are employers allowed to use private numbers to call a potential employee? If so, has an employer ever called you using a private number?

I'm sorry, I'm trying to understand your question.

If someone had a "private" number, can a potential employer call it?

If this is the question, then yes, they can call a private number, especially if permission has been granted.

At this point, most numbers are public knowledge; I'm not even sure if people still pay for their number to be private-I'm sure they do, but no employer is going to solicit the number, they're only going to contact the person for information, that's all.

Ok what if the employer uses a private number(I.e. when i am being called, all I see is private number as the caller id) have employers ever done that?

I've had an employer recently call with the "No Caller ID" on my phone.
