Any Tips on Cath Care and Bowel Program

Hi All,

Yesterday I had class time with one of our nurses from my Home Care Agency because I will be working soon with one of our higher acute casses. I was refreshed on Cath Care and Bowel Program. I was able to show how to to take care of their cath, and we discussed their bowel program and what to do. I did ok, but I am still a little nurvous on doing these things. To just listen how to do a bowel program, and show on a dummy what to do with Cath is just not the same thing as actually doing them on a live breathing person. I feel afraid that I will hurt them or something. Example when doing the bowel program you need to incert one of your fingers and sweep out anything that is still there and not leave anything behind that would cause impaction. i'm So afraid if I do not do it properly I will hurt them. I know eventually there is a first time for everyone when it comes to these type things, but was wondering if there is any tips anyone can give me on having these two things go smoothly for them as well as me. My worse fear is doing something wrong that will hurt them, and then they will not have confidance in me as a care taker, and I am a person that hates causing any pain while giving care. I might just be getting myself up tight for nothing, but I just thought if there was anything that I did not know that might help me with these two care items I would really welcome it.
