Yes, we have "certified nursing students" (CNS) where I work, that take the role of a tech while they're in nursing school, except that they can assess under RN supervision. The only thing they cannot do is pass meds.
Anyway, my mistake.
If you are considering what a Clinical Nurse Specialist does, you may want to find out what an RN does first, cause you need to be one before the other. A CNS is an expert RN in her field of choice (whatever specialty that is). He/she is:
the expert on the unit
the instructor
the mentor
the advocate
the policy maker
the manager
the director
the all around one to go to with unit issues
As far as money, that varies.
Good luck!
