Essay regarding the CNS / APN (In need of great help)

by MM2007

Hello, i am currently writing an essay on CNS/APN in such departments as the ED/Medicine and Surgery. But i just cant get my head around a question regarding CNS/APN. The question is " How do CNS/APN make judgements about how to apply evidence to their practice i.e. such as nursing skills.

Thankyou for taking the time to read.

Thanks,

M.

Hmmm...I'm a CNS in nephrology and I would answer that question with:

I apply evidenced based practices to all of my care of my patients. For instance, when my patient has evidence of uncontrolled hypertension, I work consistently and quickly to get it under control. This might consist of one medication or multiple medications. And it could include lifestyle changes and biofeedback. The reason that it would be important to reduce the blood pressure is that evidence shows that hypertension is the most common reason for renal failure in the US.

How's that???

Could your response included verbage of using standard guidelines that are empirically based? Practicing according to guidlines not personal preferences, not what tha pt. necessarily wants...but within the practice guidelines available.

Something like "It is the ethical duty of advance practice nurses to provide care that is appropriately individualized and consistent with published guidelines and current evidence (World Health Organization [WHO], 2000) or whatever. The plan of care should be developed with the patient’s input and should be instituted with resources, as indicated, to facilitate patient adherence. Fiscal limitations to the plan’s implementation must be considered and accounted for in plan prescription. The plan of care must fall within the scope of practice and be consistent with laws and rules governing APN prescribing practices." I used this for one of my papers and you could word smith it and make it more applicable to your case. Tracey
