Hi Everyone. Looking to create a Thread for current CNS.

Hi Tyloo. How did your summer class go? I "met" 2 women on the STTI Facebook page that did their CNS/MSN at ur school and are now in the DNP program there as well. USA is very popular :-)

Let me just say I am glad the summer semester is over....whew!! I love the full term semesters when the material and assignments are a lot more manageable!

What is STTI? Yes, USA is a rather large university for nursing. There are many NP programs and several other non-NP options on top of that. I would imagine it is popular because they have affiliations nationally and also overseas (for the military), and the tuition is reasonable. I have been happy with their program. I feel very fortunate to be able to attend a CNS program, as many local and regional universities closed their CNS programs in my area.

So are you are done after this falls semester right? I was thinking of buying some study materials that would cover the direct care portion of the ANCC Adult Health exam- like Hollier or Fitzgerald. What are you doing to prepare?

STTI is Sigma Theta Tau International. I'm hopefully done this fall (fingers and ties crossed). Ur university seems very popular and only good things heard about it. If I go back it's my first choice bc it has both an educator and Palliative care option. I was given some Fitzgerald review CDs that I'm listening to but I'm not as uptight about it as before bc I now know its not required unless I get an opportunity in palliative care where I'd definately need to prescribe. I intend to take the exam no matter what but I'm not going to put so much pressure on myself about it.

Hey fellow CNS students, wishing everyone a successful semester. There is a CNS Terri Ares completing a study nationwide regarding CNS experience in graduate school but unfortunately she hasn't had enough replies. If you haven't received/completed this survey already please consider doing so. I am posting the link below since I'm the only CNS in class.

I'm sure she will greatly appreciate your time and effort.

Hey Everyone

Just found a CNS study group of Facebook. "ANCC CNS STUDY GROUP". A place where you'll find others in the same plight as yourself and with study strategies!!! Soooo psyched to find them!!!

Hi Everyone!

I have been trying to find programs for pediatric CNS or neonatal CNS (currently I work in pedi and love it, but am considering switching to a NICU in the near future... I want to experience both before I make a decision on what to specialize in). Anyways, it is much harder than I thought to find an online CNS program with these specialties. The only program I have found that seems like it is what I want to do is USA. Those of you doing online programs- what schools are you going to? Do you have to follow their class schedule or can you do one class at a time? I'm just worried about not being able to keep up with 2 classes while working full time and trying to keep up with the rest of my life!

Thanks!

Hello everyone!

First time to post here and glad to find this thread for CNS student. I am on my first semester and slowly learning more about the scope of practice of the CNS. I am actually at a fence on being CNS. I am thinking of transferring to FNP, mainly because it is more in demand than the CNS.

For those who have CNS experience or those that have been in contact with many CNS, what really are the job opportunities out there? Some of my colleagues have asked me about my course and a few of my previous supervisors are not even aware of CNS. Makes me think if I am making the right decision. I know that ultimately it is not about which job is in the demand, but it is an important factor to consider. Have you guys gone into this phase as CNS students?

Also, if there are any CNS reading this, when you work in your facility or hospital, do you experience plenty of politics in your position such as when you initiate programs for your unit? Its a thought that crossed my mind because I hate "politics" in organizations and I'm not the "political" type of person.

Thank you in advance for your inputs!

In many states CNS = APN. IL and MO are two that come to mind.
