Tyloo where do you go??? What classes are you taking over the summer?? Thesis done already??

I go to the University of South Alabama. No thesis done....I'm not sure if the program is thesis or capstone but maybe I will find out this upcoming semester? I am taking health assessment and nursing research. I have managed to go through the my first two semesters (Fall 2011, Spring 2012) without complaining. But I have to say this summer semester is difficult. I am so glad that I have only one summer semester of this. Seriously I keep thinking it is just two months! But feel like it has been longer!! So in the Fall, I start my CNS class and practicum.:yelclap: I am so excited! The time has flown by in school....with the exception of this past month of summer semester...LOL!

Right now I'm taking pharmacology. It sucks. Interesting class though.

I thought taking health assessment in the summer was bad. I can't even imagine taking pharmacology during the summer! I just did it last spring.

Lol lol I love the clapping emoticon. Lol. If your program had a thesis requirement I'm sure you would know by now esp since u r taking research right now. I wanted summer course so I can finish quicker but I changed my mind. Last semester nearly killed me bc I'm a crazy over achiever who behaved like a traveling salesman with my thesis poster presentation to like 4 different conferences. Lol lol. It was not required but I felt like I did all that work for it to sit on my desk. I think not. Lol lol. Glad that's over with now.

I am one CNS student within a group of 15 NP students. They all look at me with a snarl on their face! Annoying!!!!

I am almost done, working on my capstone and I can't wait to be done done done. But am afraid of the Cert exam!!

Welcome to our group! No snarling here....or at least you can't see us snarl! :lol2: So are you graduating this semester?

Same her NicuRn but no one snarls at me atleast not to my face. One lady however keeps using to term APRN when referring to NPs and I constantly have to remind her that a CNS is an APRN. It's getting a bit annoying. Hopefully she gets it b4 we graduate. What's your capstone focusing on NICURN?

So I have to set things right. I mentioned before that I ordered a set of 6 CDs from amazon called Clinical Nurse Specialist 6 hr review course. When the 1st set of CDs arrived only the first one played in my computer. All others said blank and so I emailed customer service who quickly replied that I would receive another set. That set came today and again all said blank in my pc. Another fiery email was sent to customer service who replied within minutes telling me to try another player bc she checked them before sending them. Low and behold they work in my tele's DVD player!!!!' I'm sitting there with egg on my face and sending an apology to this company. Why didn't I think of trying them in another cd player??? Lol lol. Well I'm just glad I wasnt out 140 bucks for nothing. Haven't listened to them as yet tho so fingers crossed that it was worth it.

You will all probably find that as you get out of school and look for jobs, you will need to educate potential employers that (in many states) CNS is an APN with virtually the same practice act as an NP. I live in an area where there is a large concentration of CNS's but still when I went to apply for a job, I had to tell them that I could bill for my services, provide the same care, write scripts, etc. Good luck everyone.

I just started working on my CNS Post-MS Certificate at Idaho State University. My MS was in Nursing Education - if you think the NP students growl at CNS students you should see the NP students growl at students in an education option. We were lower than the dirt under pond-scum!

In Idaho both the CNS and the NP are APN's with very,very little scope of practice differences. Really the only difference is that CNS's do not treat adolescents or pediatrics and that is simply because Idaho State only provides CNS education for adult care.
