Chamberlain RN to BSN online program, July 2011

Nursing Students Chamberlain College

Published

Hello Nursing World,

I will be attending Chamberlain's online program this July (God willing)... I have done all the requirements for admission and now I am just basically waiting to pick out my classes. Is anyone else starting in July? Please share the classes that you are planning to take and let's try to keep in touch so we can help/motivate each other through this process. Also, if anyone out there has completed the program, please share with us your experience and opinion on what classes are best to take together and so forth. I am scared but also so excited to be starting school again. I hope all goes well and I graduate on time. :D

I'm starting on July 4th as well!! Im taking that one nursing class that they recommend and then cultural diversity! Best of luck to the both of us!! How long is it going to take you to complete the program?

Yay! Well so far, it looks like I'll be done in a year but I am still waiting for a school to send in my transcripts to know for sure. I know I will have to take statistics and history elective but the rest I already took. Did you have to take the math placement exam? or did you already have math credits from your previous school? Im definitely taking the transition class first too. Are you going fulltime or part-time? and when are you scheduled to be complete the program?

I didn't have to take any math tests...they were hoping my statistics class transfered in and i havent heard anything else about it so i guess that it did (whew!). I'm going to go full time...i guess it's full time....2 classes at a time...they said if I do that then i'll be done in 10 months.

So how many classes are you taking in total?

It seems like i'll be taking 12 classes...I'm waiting for my official schedule to come in any day now but that's what it seems like for now. I was trying to find their pass/fail rate.....I do okay in school but I don't want to pay 20,000+ and fail out of a class and have to retake it so I was trying to figure out exactly how challenging these courses are. Have you heard anything about that?

The thing that I keep hearing over and over about BSN in general is that there will be a lot of writing. Personally, reading and writing are not my strong points but I will give it my all. I started researching APA style papers and so forth. I'm sure it will be challenging but no where near as hard as what we went through for the ADN. I think that was the worst 2 yrs of school I will ever go through and its so funny how its so hard to find a job now a days with just an ADN yet its the hardest program to pass.

After a long break from school I am ready for round 2. I did my research thoroughly and believe Chamberlain is the best program for me. I have heard mostly good things about it. Yes, the down fall is that it is expensive but I was considering NYU and Columbia University at one point so compared to those schools, Chamberlain is the cheapest. I can't wait to start already because I know once we do, time is going to FLY!!! :D

Hey everyone! I start in July too with Transitions and Health Assessment. I got my ADN from Chamberlain on campus and am happy to have the ADN over and done with. I've been continually impressed with Chamberlain since my ADN and am looking forward to a different type of learning with my BSN. From what I hear from my professors, the BSN and MSN are easy compared to the Associate's. After a small handful of courses transferred, I'll end up taking 12 total classes... I have to take the Soc, Econ, Stats and History elective (yuck! if anyone knows a history class that won't bore me to tears, PLEASE let me know. History is NOT my forte at all).

Hope to see you guys in the discussion boards in class!

I'm 2 weeks away from graduation - just to let you know the program is painless and I am really happy with it. Best of luck!

DebanamRN, How many classes did you take at a time and in total ? Did you work full time or part time? And how long did it take you to complete the program?

I was so excited to start July but they havent contacted me or anything and we're only 2 weeks away from start date. I am starting a new job too but it will be fulltime as oppose to my original plan which was just weekends. I don't know, Im getting a little discouraged. I like to plan my things out in advance and buy the appropriate books before hand. Financial aid told me I wont receive my refund until week 4. Do you really have to get the books for the first few classes or will I be fine without them. I am planning on taking transitions with either health assessment or a math class if all goes well.

It will take me 10 Months to do 10 classes, in 5 8-week blocks. I work full-time and had no problem. I don't think you really need the books, but do buy the PERRLA program Lunah recommends, its a lifesaver. If you do buy the books, buy old editions cheap. The non-nursing classes I had to take were Economics (boring), Advanced composition (easy), and Cultural diversity (easy). After my first 2 classes, they set all the rest of my classes up and I never had to think about it again. I got everything together and submitted the week before classes started and had no problems.

Thanks for the reply. I will give it another week and then contact them. Feel free to come back to this post and let us know of anything else that can be useful to us during our journey. Thanks alot. And good luck on your last 2 weeks. :D
