SopranoKris,

I can't PM yet but would like to touch base with you can you message me so I can give you my email address. I applied for march start. Thanks

Hi,

Everyone, I did some research on different universities. I started my application, but quickly existed out of it. Now they are email me about finishing my application. I also read the reviews and it was pros and cons. I also had some questions about the immersion portion and find our own preceptor. I wanted to know if anyone could give me some insight on their experience, please.

They've made some changes to the program. You are required to go to campus after NR 509 for Immersion weekend to have your assessment skills checkoff. You are now also required to go to campus during your last course, NR 661, to take a live review class before you take your boards. If you don't attend the live review, you are required to do an "alternative assignment" which is an 80 page paper. They've also instituted the Respondus lockdown browser for quizzes & exams, which are now timed and no repeats allowed. This allows them to proctor exams. They are also starting board prep earlier now. It used to be you started the Leik review in your clinical courses. They now start in the FNP track courses, so you get more time with the review materials before boards. I'm actual glad they made the changes. The program needs to be more rigorous and this will certainly help us prep for boards.

Yes, you do have to secure your own preceptors. The majority of programs out there require this as well. Once you identify a preceptor, the practicum coordinator does the paperwork, gets the contracts in place, etc. You have to supply the preceptor's name, CV/resume, & board license #. When you first start, you merely have to identify a possible site. No preceptor info required. About 6 months before you start clinicals (when you're in NR 507), they will want you to start providing info on potential preceptors.

I decided not to attend as they changed their credit transfer policy.

Just curious. How is Chamberlain's FNP program? Any issues?

The FNP program at Chamberlain is doable and best for busy individuals who aren't able to attend classes during the day. The program has a descent pass-rate on the last check (according to the dean). The drawbacks from this and any other distance learning program is the lack of recognition. During my clinical rotations, I shared space with students from the local colleges and found that they were better supported. Their programs routinely received updated lists of clinics taking students and one-on-one mentoring with an alumnus. I was able to latch onto those lists but had to claw for clinical sites. If I were to do it all over again, I would most likely go local as Chamberlain is not well known in my area.
