I'm in , I'm in!! Chamberlain College of Nursing here I come!!! Anyone else starting October '09?? Good luck to all who are still waiting. To answer the previous post, you need to take the Hesi before your application can be completed. It's not so bad if you have taken some of the classes already so don't freak out. Good luck!!

So I just applied for the fall semester in oct 2009. I have everything sent in from transcripts to ACT scores... Do I need to take the HESI exam before I can get accepted or will they call and tell me? Also my GPA in College is a 3.6, but I only got a 19 on the ACT, and im not sure what my gpa even was in HS. Do I have a chance at getting in??? I'm very anxious, I feel like calling them everyday to make sure everything is going well!

You do need to schedule the HESI before being accepted. You have the grades to get in for sure. You will do fine on the HESI, it's easy. I just looked at the HESI A2 guide and Kaplin's too. I never took the ACT and my grades in high school were horrible. I got in for the Summer. Turned them down after they didn't take most of my college classes and wanted me to take them over at their nice big fat price. Now just finishing my prereqs and going somewhere else completely.

Good luck on the HESI but it's easy. I never took chemistry in my life and had math 14 years ago so I was a fish out of water and scored a 92.2%. You'll do just fine. They won't look at your high school grades, just want to make sure you graduated from there.

:yeah:Did they call you or you recieved a letter? I got a 78% on the HESI test and have a first bachelors with a GPA of 3.25. Everything has been turned in and completed the 13th of July, how long did it take for you to get accepted? I recieved 32 transfer credits, so I hope it will not take me more than 2 years.:uhoh3:

:nurse:Anybody thats already taking classes, can you give me the basics of your schedule? Do you take the class every day? Are you at the school from 8:30a to 5p? I have 4 kids and need to prepare myself and the kids for after school programs and daycare for the little ones.

you can call them up and find out if you got in. I called about something else and found out I got in. I got the packet with the letter of acceptance much later. Congrats on the 32 transfer credits. I have a bachelor's degree from SIU and they accepted 1 class that I had to fight for. None of the rest so I turned them down. Not taking college all over with. I did find out if I get an ADN, I can transfer to an MSN program and not have to get the BSN because I already have a bachelor's degree in something else. That's the route I am going.

Good luck and give them a call. If you already received the audit where they accepted the 32 credits, it won't take that long.

I got an email on Weds and a letter in the mail today. I have 20 credits so I hope it won't take me all 3 years to complete. Also, have 4 kids, hope you make it in and we can be friends. Sounds like we have a lot in common already! I completed my file on June 30 so two weeks ahead of you and since the admissions committee meets every two weeks, you may very well be in the next batch. Hope you find out soon. Sounds like you have a good shot. My GPA is close to yours 3.38 and I scored a 96.89% on the HESI. Let me know how it turns out. Good luck!

LisaWantsBSN,

Hey Lisa sorry about only having one transfer credit that sucks. I think the only reason so many of mine transferred was because the school I went to was the same format of teaching 3year college/institute. I have a bachelors in Interior Design from IADT and the school is just like Chamberlain, that it only takes you three years to complete. But finding work in interior design right now is not happening for me, so I decided to go back to what I always wanted to study as a child.

Anyways, much luck to you Lisa.

Icechick, so 4 kids too LOL! How funny is that. Well hopefully I do get the okay and I can start in October. Do you know how these classes run? I'm just trying to figure out the just of it all you know.

They accept the same classes they won't accept from me from NIU, just not SIU, which both have the same curriculum. I already have the bachelor's so at least I can skip that whole thing again and just get the RN and go straight to the MSN program. If I would have taken that expensive BSN, I might not have been able to get my MSN for awhile and now I can go right into it after my RN. So it's good. Chaimberlain was a great experience. I learned that I really didn't have to study for the HESI. I freaked out about it so much so if I take another standardized test I won't do that. That will save me a bunch of trouble so really when they didn't accept the exact same classes, it saved me more that 600 bucks a credit, it saved me from taking another bachelor's degree. I am glad I got the bachelor's degree and now know in nursing you don't need the BSN at all, you can get your RN in 2 years and then go straight to an MSN program online. Kaplin is one of the schools that do that but there are more. It did feel weird getting a bachelor's degree and then getting another one. I really thought I should want to move up instead of sideways. I always knew I was going to want to get a master's degree anyway with how this economy is going so it just makes it quicker for me.

Good luck at Chamberlain and at nursing!!

EROD09,

I am currently in the program, and I had about 36 or so credits transfer, mainly because I took wayyyyy too many classes I didn't need. Oh, the joys of deciding to go to nursing school at the last second. It's going to take me 2 years IF I decide to add another class onto my session B of Med/Surg. I'm waiting to see how this first midterm goes. It's a LOT of work, I won't lie. So it's up to you how much you want to put yourself through. My sister has told me to just wait and not add on the class so I can find a job, but you might be okay because you are just starting.

The first semester you can get away with working, once you get to fundamentals, assessment, and patho...FORGET IT!!! You'll be going non-stop, and it's very overwhelming at first. I'm in Med/surg and pharm right now, and I work 1 or 2 days a week depending on the hours they have for me. I also volunteer in the city 1 day a week (gotta find a way to get a job when I graduate), so I am definitely busy. I'm doing well, but not at the sacrifice of sleep and myself. I also have intentions of becoming a NP, so it is important to me to have good grades. I guess it's all a personal preference.

As far as classes go, you aren't in class all week for the first 2 semesters (if you start in NR222). You can choose your schedule, so you'll be able to decide when you want to take classes. Once you start fundamentals, you are in cohorts and have groups of classes. Also, that semester you start clinicals which are one day a week. Once med/surg hits, it's classes twice per week, and then clinicals twice per week. For example, I'm in the hospital Mon/Wed and then class Thurs/Fri. Currently, most of us are in day shifts, but we are starting to get nights and weekends, so clinicals are be really interchangable.

If you are willing to put in the work, you'll love it. The teachers are really good! They want you to succeed. Of course, you are going to have the whiners and the people who don't want to put in the work, but I've just learned to ignore them. I've learned so much already, and I can't wait to learn more.

I really hope this helps!

Just found out this morning that I was accepted to Chamberlain for the October 2009 program. Am also accepted at Univeristy of St. Francis in Joliet. Was considering taking the rest of my pre-requecs at a community college to save money and then start clinicals at St. Francis. Now I need to decide which route to go. Am meeting with my admissions advisor today. Opinions, both pro and con would be appreciated. Thanks. Also, anyone who goes to Chamberlain have an estimate of the average age of students in the BSN program. Just curious.

I am so bummed I only got a 78% on the test, but hopefully I get in. I called Mr Ryan on Thursday and he said he hasn't heard anything back yet. He said out of all my stuff I scored pretty high on his end and that we just have to wait to see what the board says. Wel godislove89, my first bachelors was in interior design and it wasn't an all girls school, but the interior design classes was mostly girls except a few guys. You'll be fine, I know your asking thoughs already in the program, but just thought I'd say my peace.

Hope to see you in October!
