YSU/St. Elizabeth CRNA Students?

I am a current Junior SRNA at St. E's/YSU. I was interviewed by a panel of 8 (half MDAs and half CRNAs). It was intimidating at first, but what panel interview isn't?

I was asked an equal amount of non-clinical and clinical questions such as how to take a wedge pressure reading, managing a vent for an acidotic patient, etc. I was also asked to tell them about my goals, why I decided to become a CRNA, why I picked St. E's and where if I applied elsewhere. Oh, and make sure that you think of a book (non-nursing) that you have read recently, and why. They also look at your overall GPA highly. Each panel member has a folder with all your bio, transcripts, etc. So, they know your history when you interview. It all boils down to, "Can you hold up to the high standards and pressures of becoming a SRNA." They want someone who can finish the program. It is a grueling program. We started Aug 16th, and I've been in many surgical cases with my CRNA already. They are highly supportive of CRNAs/SRNAs. It's a great program. I'm glad I was accepted.

For the most part, the interview process was OK and nerve wracking at the same time. The director, Ms. Rodgers did most of the asking and the panel took turns asking one question at a time. I think they wanted to see how one does under pressure.

Make sure that you bring a small bottled water for yourself. They didn't offer me a beverage beforehand, and it was a good thing that I brought one. It was a good way to keep your throat from drying out and to keep you from clearing it.

It is a very hard program to get into. It's small (we have 13 in our class) and they interview like, 7 applicants per seat. If you get a letter for interview, be greatfull. That's an accomplishment right there.
