i have to ask, and i'm sure it's been asked; and here goes again, especially for those who haven't missed it.. is it necessary to maintain ccrn whilst in school (and no, i'm not british, but love to use that word whenever possible)... i have heard ambivalence, and to me, i don't think it necessary... my goal, as an srna, is to become a crna, which, by no means belittles ANYTHING, serves as enough of a goal and motivation to achieve a higher "heart" and skill... some say maintain 'just in case'... i DO NOT want to be the 'just in case'..
anyway, your thoughts are appreciated, since you have all been thru this ~

why not? as a crna student you'll still be a ccrn.... and that will be respected in its own right... in regards to your position as a crna student.
imo, it shows dedication to maintaining knowledge and professionalism.

I agree. The CCRN is respected in that you have a basis of knowledge in critical care nursing. It shows dedication and professionalism and supports AACN! Good luck in your studies

Yes, It is a good thing that you will have a critical care couse. I am about to take it this September in university here in London. And my aunt from NJ said when I go to the US, I'm gonna have an additional pay per hour from my salary.

listen, i understand it's importance in the dedication and professionalism.. as a budget-conscious student, the re-cert fee won't come easy. but now that i'm thinking, school must count for some ceu's. does anyone know where to find the ceu breakdown?

I just let me CCRN lapse in June (after 9 months in anesthesia school). While I certainly had the cont ed hours, I wasn't going to cough up the $200 bucks or whatever the renewal fee was. Personally, I think the cost is way too high (where is the professionalism in writing a check? - I need the money for anesthesia books). Also, I figure if I'm dumb enough to flunk out of anesthesia school than I'd probably better retake the CCRN exam anyway!!!  | | No. 7 |

I agree with midwestern....I just don't see a good reason to spend that much money to recert while in school. As a poor RNSA drowning in student loan debt, I let my CCRN lapse. Now, I do think it helped me get into school so for those not already accepted, I highly recommend getting your CCRN...and once accepted, don't worry about!!

Just a quick question from a student- how long do you have to wait to take the ccrn exam? I have heard one year from some people and two years from others.

You need something like 1700 hours, which amounts to about 1 year of full-time work.
