What kind of help are you looking for?

When I was waiting, the only thing that helped was distraction. I was studying for the CCRN, that was good. Christmas was a good distraction as well. What semiproductive thing can you do that will refocus your attention?

Congratulations on alternate!!

Certainly the chances of getting in as an alternate increase with class size.
Also, was the program kind enough to let you know what alternate you were....1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc?

I would say if you are in the top five your chances are pretty good. I was 3rd out of approx 40, and I have a friend who was 2nd out of a class of 12. I have not started yet so I am not sure how far the list the program went.

Keep your chin up

I am wait listed for UC for this upcoming year and still waiting, so I feel your pain well. Personally, I am not holding out much hope, but understand things happen and there is a remote chance at best in getting in this fall. I sent a letter to the decision maker saying I was available to "fill-in" and would be ready with short turnaround time should an unforeseen event occur and understand the university's desire to maintain program student quotas. My letter mentioned how honored and humbled I am being placed on the alternate list as well as my accomplishments since interviewing such as taking an organic chemistry class, ccrn certification, shadowing additional crna's etc. Bascially, I call it a 'desperation letter', but I wanted the program director to understand I am committed and ready to go should something happen at the last minute (I want them to say where's the applicant who can go at a minutes notice). Hope this helps. PM me and I will copy my letter in for you.

I'm feeling your pain with the wait/alternate list. I was 3rd on a list of 6 as of Oct and I'm now 1st. I feel like I'm hanging on the edge by my fingernails and dread the thought of the reapplication process next fall if it doesnt work out and I was so close I keep telling myself anything can happen but the wondering is hard!

Yes, if you call them they can let you know how many alternates and where you stand on the list...but, they do not do the numbering right away, so that information may or may not be available when you call, but do not give up.
