Things to study up on...

Updated May 19, 2004 at 06:22 PM by MaleAPRN

Hi all,

For those of you who've already started NA school, what advice can you give me and others who will be starting this August on things to study and brush up on?

I know that each and everyone possess different levels of critical care experience (ie, some are proficient in cardiac meds/drips, some are not, some are proficient in ventilator setting manipulations and adjustments, some are not...etc, etc). But, were there any subjects in critical care nursing that you wish you might've known more about prior to the start of classes?

Please advice.

Thanks ya'll

Vinny.

If you are exceptionally keen, you might want to review (if you are lucky) or take a look at organic chemistry in regards to amines, phase 1 and phase two metabolism as well as the Hendelson-Hasselbach equation. You might want to take a look at gas laws and read a review article on inhalational agents. It takes a bit to wrap your head around gases.

But if I were you I'd relax.

Take the summer off!!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to have information overload after the first week of school therefore, you will more than likely forget everything you looked over during the summer. In fact, if you have a family, spend as much time as possible with then because its going to get rough in a couple of months.

I personally am quitting work June 26th & heading to the beach for a mth. I am going to relax, spend time with my family, & I may look over some drugs while lounging.-doubtful, but maybe!!! Our department head said if we got in the program then we were ready to be taught in the fall-not to start trying to teach ourselves now. And personally after seeing my fall schedule & paying for the 1st semester I have no problem relaxing & waiting to be enlightened!!!!!!!!

:hatparty: Enjoy your summer!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!

I think I will take all your advice and ENJOY and RELAX. I'm planning to be moved and settled in Ohio, one month before school starts. I know i'll get busy getting acquianted with the area (depends on where I close a deal on a home), see the sights...and YES....try to read as well on the drugs and subjects that you all suggested in my post.

Thanks to all for your support and encouragement!!! :hatparty:
