Shadowing and HIPPA

I know shadowing has become a pretty standard step along the way to a career in nurse anesthesia. I think HIPPA may impact the future of these opportunities.

The hospital where I used to work is no longer permitting any non-employees to shadow due to HIPPA. And my alma mater program no longer can take applicants into the OR during interviews, because of HIPPA.

Just wondering if this is happening elsewhere yet, and what you guys think about it.
