question re: accepted to your 2nd choice first

I never really had a 1st or 2nd choice, but I am in the position where the two schools I have applied to are on different time lines. Since I was accepted to one school a while ago, I sent off my $1000 to hold my seat. The other school holds it's interviews next month, so if I get in I will have to decide which program best suits me. It may mean losing $1000, but it's worth it if I get to choose the right school. If I don't get in to school #2, then no big deal. I am leaning towards school #1 anyway, but I will interview and keep my options open.
Bottom line: $1000 is a lot of money, but should not deter you from making the right choice about which school is best for you. If you are lucky enough to have a choice....great! If not, then be thankful you have been given the opportunity to enter into a great profession. Hope this helps.

One thing you can do is ask when they need a decision by. This varies, some schools give you a month and others a week. In the former situation you may be able to wait out a decision at your 1st choice. In addition, if you have the extra time, it would not hurt you to call your 1st choice school ( say a week after the interview--talk to the director.) and explain your situation. If they really want you they will be prompted to reply, if not than you are no worse off--just accept your second choice. You could potentially save 1000$ dollars, or whatever the cost. Good luck
