Question about anesthesia for bariatric surgery

Just curious: Isn't placement of an NG tube standard of care during bariatric surgery (whether open or laparoscopic?) I could see where some might say the NG tube would get in the way of the resection or the anastamosis--but, couldn't it just be pulled back upon request, i.e., when laying a line of staples at the esophageal-gastric junction? Thanks for any and all input.

every patient gets an NGT at the end of the case - you are right: during stapling there is nothing in the esophagus/stomach to avoid complications

We place a bakers tube after induction. Inflate the balloon to twenty cc's during creation of pouch. Then pull it.
