Policies for distance from hospital when on call.

Looking for some policies of how far away (miles/minutes) CRNA's can be away from the hospital when covering call? Looking at rural setting. 20-30 minutes acceptable? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Our policy is 30 minutes, but we already have people in-house 24/7, so it's not quite so critical. It all depends on the situation. I know a CRNA who covers several counties in south Georgia - he's probably within 30 minutes of only one of those.

The hospital where i house sup'd at had a 30 minute response time requirement for all OR staff and any other vital staff positions such as nuc med tech's, ultrasound tech's to name a couple. They did have 24 hour in-house OB coverage though.

OB CALL - 20 Minutes. Must stay in-house for inductions after active labor begins and when epidurals running. Community hospital setting.

ours are not allowed to be off-site.. grab a good book and hope there's a comfy cushion to lay on during down time at night...
