OB CRNA Hours

by dad2one

I've heard that it's common for CRNA/MDAs in OB to work 24 hrs on, 24 (or 48) off. Is this true? What is your schedule like for OB? Do you do OB exclusively or do you get to mix it up with the Main OR?

It really depends on the size of your anesthesia department and your OB volume. For smaller facilities, 24 hours on is not that unusual, with the day off after call. But not all places can afford to let you have the day off, plus in a smaller hospital, you're probably on call for the OR as well as OB.

Our hospital does 18,000 deliveries a year. All of us, MD's and anesthetists, rotate through OB. We can run 5 concurrent C-Sections if we have to, so we may have as many as 8 anesthesia people just for OB on some days. And we always have at least three in-house 24/7/365, with an additional three available on call from home. We're lucky enough to have guys that like the night shift, so the rest of us only share call from home - after our elective schedule finishes around 9pm or so. Hey, it's better to be busy...

1-- Not to doubt your veracity here, jrk -- very impressive numbers and all that bombast -- but ain't that the same joint where your boss says he did 300,000 anesthetics by his own self?

2-- When you post to this CRNA BB, might we ask that you duely identify yourself as an AA and not attempt, as above, to falsely group yourself in as a CRNA? Strictly as a courtesy to us?

Much as we enjoy your posts, my friend, the newbies here should see clearly who's talking.

You never give up to get your digs in. The OP posed a question and I answered it. Why do you have a problem with that, and why do you never miss a chance to flame AA's?

We only have 100 total providers in our group. You figure out if it's BS.

My profile clearly states AA, which is more info than many put in theirs. It's there for anyone who cares to look.
