How are practicing CRNAs Fighting for our profession??

Specialties CRNA

Hi All,

I know I should probably just stay in my little nurse forum, but I can't help but wonder over to SDN and see what they are chatting about. The last few days have been interesting. I won't go into detail.

I am just wondering what you can do as a CRNA to furthur the profession besides give money to AANA? I think supporting the AANA is good, but just wondering if there are any other things we should be doing. I am just a student now, but do realize the importance of political involvement. I think the public is finally becoming aware that physicians are not perfect and that confidence in nurses is high at this time.

I for one am for a team approach to anesthesia care. I think it just makes sense for safety, etc. I have no problem with MD anesthesia. I think that there are good providers and bad providers just like any other profession.

Well, there is so much more that i could say, but I just want some opinions from those older/wiser official CRNA's out there!

Thanks

Hi. Only 1.5% (staggering) of all practicing CRNAs are involved in education of SRNAs............

Somehow, I doubt that this figure can possibly include all us many CRNAs who help students in front-loaded programs with our experience as their clinical instructors during their field placements. Perhaps that 1.5% applies only to university academics?

deepz

This 1.5% number reflects AANA surveyed CRNAs in the last mailing. What I don't remember is if this specifically relates to full-time academic faculty--it would seem so, because you're right==many CRNAs contribute via instruction solely or partly in the clinical setting.
