there is a guy on a boat in the ocean. so he's at sea leval which is 760 mmhg (aptmosphere pressure)
he cuts an artery.
his MAP is 100 mmhg
why doesn't he get an air embolus

our phys teacher just gave us this one and it made me think

Blood pressure is measured relative to atmospheric pressure, thus a mean arterial pressure of 100 mmHg is over and above atmospheric pressure. That's why slicing an artery open can be a little messy due to the large pressure gradient created between the open vessel and atmospheric pressure prior to clot formation.
