Excelsior Degree and CRNA Grad Schools...

Hello everyone-

Has anyone out there ever encountered a problem (or known someone who has) about having a degree (ADN or BSN) from the online excelsior college program when getting into CRNA school? I've been told by some that some of them welcome the diversity, and basically it depends on clinical experience, and references? I know I would check with my local CRNA schools before I went ahead with Excelsior program, but I would like some input from people in the field if possible. Thanks everyone !!

God Bless,

Jeremy

Hey there,

I don't want to be discouraging or anything, but I know two people who did the same program. With one it took him over a year and a half and the other is still working on his (going on 2 years). They didn't like it and they seemed to have run into a lot of problems. Good luck with yours. Hope it goes better.

Hey Thanks-

I know it can be like that, however, a person has to have the willpower to "get er done" so to speak. Not to mention if it took me 2 1/2 years I would still be ahead of the waiting lists here in Minnesota...

I did the excelsior program and had absolutely no problems - in fact I have recommend it to many of my colleagues. You are right . . . you have to have the mindset to get it done. I only had to take the nursing courses (6 at the time) and I got them done in about 7 months. The CPNE went smoothe for me - I studied for about a month and I passed. The were very timely with everything. And you don't have to show up for class. There are so many resources for help now including this site. Good luck!

I think the poster is asking about how a degree from Excelsior will be viewed by nurse anesthesia program admission committees in regard to acceptance.

The question is not about the Excelsior experience itself, that is a separate issue.

I think you need to contact some programs and ask.

OK then . . . I have not received any negative feedback about my Excelsior ADN degree form the schools I have contacted. I do also have another BS from a state university.

I have my Associates Degree in Nursing from Excelsior college and my bachelor's from South Dakota State University. Excelsior was great finished my ASN in 6 months. I have had 3 interviews for CRNA programs and start this May in Minneapolis. CRNA programs that I interviewed looked at the program as a plus since it was completely a self study/self motivation program.

Good luck

Greetings, I work with a nurse practioner who has ASN and BSN through Excelsior and had NO trouble at all getting into MSN program at UT-Austin. EC publishes a list of graduate programs that accept EC degrees with no strings attached... Most major universities and medical school type programs are on that list! Good Luck
