DNP perscription power?

    I am staring a Nurse Anesthesia DNP program in the fall and I have a question. When I graduate will I be able to perscribe medications? I am attending school in IL but I may return to where I live now (NYC) to practice.

    You will need to look into the state's nurse practice act to determine prescriptive authority for nurse anesthetists.

    All CRNA's can prescribe anything necessary to provide comprehensive anesthesia in the perioperative period. CRNA's are like nurse practitioners during surgery. Regarding whether you can prescribe things after surgery is over, that depends on your state. I heard Washington gives CRNA's prescribing powers, but I'm not 100% sure.
