CRNA jobs less available in CA?

Just by donig some quick searches, seems that CA usually has a lot less available positions than many other states: FL, NY, TX, etc...

Is there a reason why CA would not list as many jobs as these other large states?

Is it just the market saturation in CA?

Comments appreciated.

CRNAs have been utilized less the the Western part of the US in the past. I've heard the ASA (in the 60-70's) had a strategy of eliminating CRNAs from the West coast heading east. Almost all the nurse anesthesia programs were closed in the region, and not many jobs, with the exception of rural were available for CRNAs. That trend has reversed in the past 15 years or so, but you can still see lower concentrations of CRNAs in the Mountain and Western states. The reversal of this trend is one of the reasons that demand for CRNAs will continue to be strong for some years to come. In 1990 there were almost no CRNAs in Denver, now several hospitals have CRNAs. That's just an example that I know about.

What is the logic behind it?

Anyone else concerned that CRNA jobs seems to be much more scarce in CA than other states? Seems that it would be a more dramatic issue for those that would like to practice anesthesia and also live in CA.

Geographically it is one of the most desired placed to live in the country. It is always sunshine, and happiness. Positive, can-do attitudes, etc. More than any other place in the world. People come to So Cal to make their dreams come true. Therefore, there are the highest percentage per capita of MDAs here in So Cal than anywhere else in the world. So many foreign MDAs that we only have 2 native born Americans in our practice. (We have 35 total).
i do not know about the info about the ASA getting rid of CRNAs in the West, but it doen't sound that far fetched.
IT IS A REALLY GOOD IDEA for this reason to become involved with your state nurse anesthetist organization as well as AANA. If you don't want this VIRUS to spread and lose your ability to practice then, GET INVOLVED! Donate to your PAC, etc.
Just MHO.
