First little while can be a frightening experience. Take a deep breath and relax. Most importantly learn from your mistakes and you will make them we all have.
The worst thing I ever did and after it was very funny.
We had a lady come to our Med surg florr step down from IcU going home with family the same day.
we helped her pack and helped her dress
Niether of us thought once never mind twice about the monitor she was wearing. So like goo students we wished her luck and sent her home with her family. Of course as soon as she left the building she flat lined on the ICU monitors a STAT was called and everyone was in a panic looking for this lady. we didn't realize she was wearing a telemetry monitor and not a Holter monitor.
We caught S**T big time from our teacher and of course had to hunt down the very expensive piece of equipment. Laughed later but learn a valueable lesson

Get a good Nursing Drug handbook
A little flashlight
A good stethscope
Most importantly get a good nights sleep

i'm not sure about equipment, most or's will have what you need. a good reference book might be helpful. the best piece of advice i've been given is when you get your earpiece, wear it, use it at all times on all patients, in every case. it can be your most important piece of equipment and it'll save your a>>.

ps good luck, we get 1 week of clinicals right befor xmas. i'm am surely looking forward to that.
