CCRN prep

Specialties CRNA

Published

Hello again everybody.

I have decided that it would definately be worth my while if I at least sat for the CCRN before I apply to CRNA schools.

The question that I have for y'all is....What were the most effective study manuals and classes? Any other advice for someone preparing for that exam? How much time should I allow for study? I plan on taking it in July.

Anyway, Thanks in advance to the advice.

Most of the prep that my girlfriend and I used involved stuff from Laura Gasparis. We attended and 3 day prep course by Robin Dennison that helped some, but we thought Ms. Gasparis' audio tapes and study manuals helped the most. She is very knowledgable and even fun to listen too. You wont fall asleep listening to her audio tapes. Take lots of quizzes on all of the subjects, and think about what you've learned when your taking care of your patients. You should do well. Good luck.

I used and abused the audio tapes mentioned previously. And found that to be a great investment. I would also attend some ccrn review class and buy the pass ccrn and the brown book by Ahrens. Both are really good and the cd rom with the pass book gives you an idea on which area's to focus on and what the test questions may be like. I also made note cards using the outline of the ccrn test content from the aacn site. I had so many that I bound them in small note books from wal-mart. I found that taking the note books with me and peeking at them here and there was beneficial.

Make sure to understand a lot on cardiac and pulm as these sections weigh heavily on the test. The nice thing is that it is graded before you leave and you will spend no time wondering how you did.

Good luck!

The only book I used was the Pass CCRN by Robin Dennison. It is a great book. I did not go to any reviews right before I took the test, but it would be a great idea to do so. There is a lot of material out there (books, tapes, reviews) that are designed to help you pass, but if you can only afford one book or one thing to help you learn the stuff, I used the Pass CCRN book and I did, indeed, pass. My advice is to saturate yourself in the ccrn material. If you can read quick snatches of stuff at work, then do so. Study in your spare time. Study right before bed. Anything that you think may help you as you know what type of studying will work for you better than anyone else. Good luck!
