Can you work as a Student Nurse Anesthetist?

I will be applying to CRNA school soon. I have heard different things on whether RRNA/SRNAs can practice after their first year of school, while they are in clinicals. Is this true, or is absolutely mandatory that you cannot work at all during CRNA school as a RN or SRNA?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
parsons8

Piggy Bank Working while in school
It depends on whether the school's program is front loaded or not. Some schools teach theory all throughout the first year, then clinicals in the second. This kind of program may allow some SRNAs to work as an RN only, not a SRNA.

Some programs (like YSU/St. E where I am) are clinical intense. We are already starting our clinical rotation next week, and school just started on the 16th. They highly recommend that work as an RN be reduced from full-time to perdiem or not work at all if possible. The seniors in our program also recommend that we don't work since there are a lot of reading and studying to be done during the program.

Good luck.

You can work as an RN throughout school, though I wouldn't recommend it.
You can not work as an SRNA ( i'm assuming you mean giving anesthesia?) until you are certified.

I stayed on Per diem at my ICU job but I can't seem to find the time to work outside of anesthesia school.....oh well! I have 5 days off this coming week for my "summer vacation". I thought about working intially, but after this past semester, there is no way I want to waste my precious 5 days off in the ICU! I'm going on a much needed, although too short, vacation!

Default Away from CRNA time
I don't blame you at all Trauma Nurse.

You are a prime example as to why students should not work during CRNA school. Obviously if you absolutely need the money, then you have to do what you have to do. In the long run however, I feel the time off will out balance the few dollars you will make in a few days working. But this is an individual consideration as well, so don't flog me please. From what I understand, any time away from CRNA school while you are going is GOOD time, so use it wisely is all I can say.

I am starting my second year of school and have found time on the weekends and during breaks to work. I think it all depends on how comfortable you are taking study time away so that you can work. Most programs don't want you to work b/c they don't want you to lose that study time. I would definitely suggest working per diem b/c there will be times when you won't have time or won't want to work.
