PhD in 2014 for Nurse Midwives?

  1. 0
Hello all! I've been randomly reading this forum for years, never really having any reason to jump on board but now I do... I've decided to finish my schooling and become a Nurse Practitioner for OBGYN!!! I cannot wait to get started and am looking forward to the journey ahead.

A while back I had read something (here maybe?) about Nurse Practitioners needing a PhD if they finish their schooling after 2014. I will be in that group and would love more information.

Does anyone here know if that is correct information? And if so, what PhD would be needed for Nurse Midwives/NP-OBGYN? I've found a Doctor of Science in Nursing, but nothing specific to obgyn.

Any insights there would be greatly appreciated- I tried searching but could not find a way to search the cnm board specifically and was swamped in posts completely unrelated to my questions here.

    thanks!!

    Hello and welcome to allnurses.com

It isn't a PhD, it is a DNP. And, the date is 2015.

This date is a vision only and not yet in stone.

You can read more in the NP forum about this. There are long threads with this discussion as it applies to the NP, CNS and CNM.

    We hope you enjoy allnurses.com.

No problem. Many get this info turned around. Heck, sometimes we seasoned APN's get it all turned around.
