Oklahoma Student CNM needs preceptor!

Good morning!

I am one year into my CNM program at Frontier. I start clinicals in spring 2016, and I can't believe it is already time to start finding a preceptor. I'm having terrible luck. It isn't easy to get in touch with people, getting a response, or finding someone who has the availability to precept. Anyone out there have any suggestions or ideas? I need to try to stay fairly local (Oklahoma City, or a few hours away) if possible due to family commitments. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

Elaine

I would place an advertisement on CraigsList in the OKC, Tulsa, and Dallas metro areas. Also, you might have better luck finding a preceptor in Dallas, which is only three hours away from the OKC area.

Did you ever find a preceptor? If not, you might try the Choctaw Nation hospital in Talihina or Hastings (Cherokee Nation) in Tahlequah. They both use midwives. I am looking to start the CNM program this summer and also live in Oklahoma. Hopefully you have already found someone though.

I know it's been a year since you posted, but did you find someone? Dawn Karlin has a stand alone birthing center in Weatherford, OK and also does home births anywhere from OKC to Western Oklahoma. You might try her. momentsofblissmidwifery.com
