ITT RN wanting to become a CNM

Specialties CNM

Published

I graduated from ITT Technical institute with my associates in nursing last year. I have 4 young children so I took a job in geriatrics because the PRN schedule worked well with me... plus I am quite fond of old people. :-)I have always wanted to get into midwifery though. I absolutely loved my L&D clinical and have always been a supporter of the natural birthing process.Okay onto my questions... Would you suggest getting my bachelors or going into a bridge program? Does anyone know if frontier accepts ITT grads into their bridge program? Thanks!

Specializes in ER, Med-surg.

As long as it's a certified program and you meat their criteria I don't see why they wouldn't let an ITT grad into their program.

I know that when I graduated, they were working on getting nationally accredited. Obviously accredited by the state, but I can't find them listed on the national accreditation list :-/

ITT credits will not transfer anywhere, often not even to another ITT campus. Mot of their programs are not accredited. I'm a former Financial Aid employee, I know, I saw heartbreak nearly every day from students who were stuck with absurd amounts of student debt with worthless degrees and credits. From the link you posted:

[h=2]"ADN-MSN Admissions Criteria[/h]Applicants are expected to meet the following criteria for admission to the Frontier Nursing University (FNU):

  • Be a registered nurse with educational preparation from a nationally (CCNE or NLNAC) accredited nursing program offered by a regionally accredited educational institution."

Emphasis mine -- ITT is not a "regionally accredited educational institution." It is a proprietary (private-for-profit) "school" that is only accredited nationally by an organization created and operated by the proprietary schools so that they can truthfully say they're "accredited" and hope that prospective students don't know enough to ask any further questions.

Before I ruin my life?

Thank you for your answer, however I have ALREADY graduated from itt and did not ruin my life. I have a lot of student loans, however I also have an awesome job as an RN in a wonderful hospital.

A local nationally accredited university has accepted me into their RN to BSN program and from there I will be able to attend any masters program that I want. So, although I do have a lot of student loans they are doable and I do not regret my decision to go there, even though I will not be able to go straight into a bridge program.
