Frontier online program

Specialties CNM

Published

I am hoping to talk to someone who has completed the CNM program through Frontier. I have been a nurse for 2 years. I did my senior capstone in L&D, but haven't had any recent RN experience there. I am looking at Frontier because of its online option and price. Just wondering if people feel the online program provided them with a good education and if they were able to find a job soon after graduating. I have wanted to deliver babies since I was 10 years old and I'm pretty sure I will apply to the program in May 2015. Also have looked at Georgetown. Feedback for that also would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Georgetown, that's a pretty expensive school, but Frontier has the best program in the country. They deliver babies in the rural areas of KY. I suggest speaking with an advisor at the school, so they can give you the best options.

I have not completed the program but I am currently finishing up my third term. :)

The education up to this point is very good, but it requires a lot of time and dedication. If you do not put in the time you will fail the program. However, on that note...the teachers are wonderful and easy to get along with. The professors seem to really care about each student and wants you to succeed.

On the Georgetown note, I looked at their program also but it is crazy expensive!!

I am considering this program, for fall 2015. I wish you blessings in your schooling.

Before I started at Frontier, I had the same question about having no L&D experience. A good friend of mine, and FNU grad, told me "go get some L&D experience!!" True, many programs will accept nurses without this experience, and I believe that one can become a CNM without it - but working in L&D IS good education (paid education, too!). The healthcare environment is so HUGE and complicated and complex -and working in a hospital L&D unit as an RN just gives you more experience to work with when you become a CNM. I spend a lot of time frustrated with what I do as an L&D nurse - but am also grateful for it.

Job after graduating? That depends - on where you live, where you're willing to relocate, how much money you want/need to make. Having OB nursing experience seems to help CNMs get their first job. I won't say it's easy for CNMs to get their first position - I've seen CNMs really struggle to get hired in their first position. Sometimes they create their own positions with physician groups. It's challenging. Maybe there are areas somewhere else where midwives are in high demand - I haven't seen it around here.

(Someone, remind me why I'm doing this again?)
